Today is National Dog Day.
In sub-Saharan Africa you can find the African Wild Dog also known as the African Painted Dog or Cape Hunting Dog. I was very lucky to see them on my recent safari at Thornybush Game Lodge in the Greater Kruger Park.
They have a colourful patchy coat, large bat like ears and a bushy tail with a white tip. No two wild dogs are marked exactly the same.
It is the largest wild canine in Africa and is one of the world’s most endangered animals.
Wild dogs are very social and gather in packs of around ten individuals, but some packs number more than 40. They are opportunistic predators and whilst hunting can reach speeds of more than 44 miles per hour.

Today is World Chimpanzee Day.
In honor of humankind’s closest living relative, World Chimpanzee Day is a celebration of an extraordinary species: chimpanzees.

Chimpanzees are highly endangered. One hundred years ago, there were an estimated 1-2 million chimpanzees across twenty-five countries in Africa. Today, there are as few as 350,000 wild (high estimate) chimpanzees across the continent of Africa. We must each do our part to turn those numbers around. Together, by providing holistic solutions to end habitat loss, illegal wildlife crime, and disease transmission, we can give chimpanzees a fighting chance.

Anyone for tennis?
Sasakwa Lodge in the 350,000 acre Singita Grumeti Reserve, Tanzania, has a tennis court where you’ll be surrounded by the African wilderness. It’s a bit different from Wimbledon! Who knows what will be watching you?
Apart from tennis you can go on safari, take guided walks, do yoga, go hot air ballooning, visit the local community, visit the anti-poaching observation post, work out in the fitness centre, relax in the wellness centre, admire the fabulous views and have wonderful dining experiences.
